The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the world’s major oil-producing countries. A member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), the UAE has estimated recoverable oil reserves of around 97 billion barrels, of which the emirate of Abu Dhabi alone accounts for around 92.2 billion barrels. The petroleum experience of Abu Dhabi has been varied and extensive. The structure of the industry has developed from the original concession arrangements through to the establishment of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in 1971 and its subsidiaries. During this transformation of the industry in Abu Dhabi, the legal framework governing the development of petroleum resources in the emirate has evolved, as has the tax system applicable to operating companies, the means of dispute resolution, and the overall organizational structure of the industry. The structure of the Abu Dhabi oil industry is built around the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which has rapidly assumed the role of a link between government institutions--which establish petroleum policy--and the operating companies that are responsible for executing approved projects. ADNOC is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of the oil policy of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.As the principal producer of oil and gas in the UAE, ADNOC’s position in the industry is central. Atef Suleiman is uniquely qualified to assess the role of ADNOC, and he here examines the nature of its operations, and explores its ability to innovate and develop in order to successfully ride the new trends in the oil industry.

For years, the mud-shedding debate raged, "Time. No, ShimanoAAA" that is until Crankbrothers introduced their Eggbeater. There are no pedals that work better than these in the slop. The Crankbrothers Eggbeater 3 Pedals are the newest version of their workhorse Eggbeater SL. Like the older SL, the Eggbeater 3 employs investment cast stainless steel for the main parts of the pedals -- the body and wings. These stainless parts are made to exacting tolerances for optimum performance and they'll never rust! In a change from the SL, the spindle is now forged from super-strong chromoly steel, meaning that anyone can use these as there's no weight limit. Eggbeaters are also some of the easiest-to-use clipless pedal systems around. Thanks to the four-sided wing of the Eggbeater, it's literally impossible to not clip in with lightning quickness as soon as the bottom of your shoe hits the pedal. The Eggbeater wing rotates either forward or backward under the pressure of your foot to quickly and smoothly engage the cleat bolted to the sole of your shoe. The brass cleats for the Crankbrothers Eggbeater 3 Pedals are small so they recess flush with the tread on the bottom of your shoes for easy walking. They're also designed for two release angles -- 15AA or 20AA. The release angle depends on which cleat you bolt to which shoe. Crankbrothers recommends the 15AA setting if you're new to clipless. Otherwise, the 20AA configuration will give you greater mobility on the bike without the worry of an accidental release. Needle and cartridge bearings will keep the Eggbeater 3 Pedals spinning smoothly -- a great improvement from the old bushings. And when the time comes for an overhaul, keep in mind that nobody else's pedals are as easy to service as Crankbrothers' pedals are. Shims to protect your shoes are included as well as all the hardware you'll need for installation.

What if you want more support for the sole of your shoe, yet you love the idea of their supreme mud-shedding capability? That's where the Crankbrothers Candy 3 Pedals hit the mark. The Candy 3 has a lightweight two-piece aluminum body that surrounds the four-sided steel retention wings on the pedals. It's more durable than the old resin body used on Candy pedals in the past and doesn't really add any extra weight. SoAAAlasts longer and weighs the same? We'll take it!Compared to Eggbeaters, the alloy body on the Candy pedals feels like it gives you a larger and easier-to-hit target when you're trying to engage the pedals in a hurry. But just like the Eggbeaters, the Candy 3 Pedals give you 6AA of float and come with two-bolt cleats that fit any mountain bike shoes. The brass cleats are slightly asymmetrical. So depending on which foot you install the marked cleat -- right or left, you'll get either a 15AA or 20AA release angle. Another benefit of Crankbrothers' use of brass for the cleat is that they're slightly softer than the steel used in the retention system of the pedals. This ensures that the inexpensive and easy to replace cleats will wear out before your spendy pedal parts.And thinking of your investment, Crankbrothers designs their pedals to be easily serviced. They can be disassembled, re-greased, and bolted back together in just a few minutes. It must be noted that the Candy 3 does away with the bushings of old. The forged chromoly spindle spins on smooth running needle and cartridge bearings. Crankbrothers Candy 3 Pedals come in Black or Blue. They include the cleats, two shims to protect your shoes, and all the necessary cleat hardware for installation.
