3rd Generation Country: A Practical Guide to Raising Children with Great Values

3rd Generation Country: A Practical Guide to Raising Children with Great Values

BeNeca Ward highlights the practices that were once used to set the American standards on raising children to be kind, respectful and responsible adults. Shedding light on the timely topic of how to instill great values into today's children, this book focuses on GETTING BACK TO THE BASICS OF PARENTING utilizing the lessons that were used for at least three generations but for many reasons are no longer being taught. Subtle and informative, this book infuses humor and wit as readers reflect upon their own experiences and are tuned into the experiences of others. It also spotlights how much was once taught through the simplest lessons. With chapters like, "Hold My Hand", "The Patience of a Pomegranate", "The Makings of a Man" and Family Ties" readers are in for a memorable illuminating experience. As Ward states, it is never too late to mold America's children into kind, respectful and responsible adults. Excerpts: "Growing up, we became very familiar with the words structure and discipline. They were blended into the cement that was laid on the foundation of our lives, which ultimately held all our values together." "As children, we were not given the most but taught to appreciate the least." "I learned how to accept the fact that everyone will not think that I am the most beautiful person; but just as I found beauty within myself, someone else would fi nd beauty in me as well." "Being neighborly" was . . . a bit like mandatory community service." "Bedtime was a regular vocabulary word in our household." "A man's name was ultimately viewed as the mirror image of his legacy. It was looked at as something similar to a "bowl of life." Everything that he did during his lifetime was put inside of his name."

Pocket Reference for Writers (3rd Edition)

Pocket Reference for Writers (3rd Edition)

Toby Fulwiler and Alan Hayakawa's goal in writing this 3rd edition of The Pocket Reference For Writers is simple yet progressive: to make it possible for students to have a highly condensed, inexpensive Writing Across the Curriculum oritented rhetoric / handbook that can be used in any college course. With this in mind, Pocket 3 is organized around the interrelated stages of writing called planning, composing, researching, revising, and editing. It explains and illustrates issues of style, grammar, punctuation usage, and mechanics as matters of choices that depend upon audience, purpose, and situation rather than static and absolute rules. Like the other Fulwiler/Hayakawa handbooks, all the writing is exceptionally clear, jargon-free, and engaging for college writers to read, which make for an ideal classroom companion.

Healing My Soul: A 3rd Generation Survivor of Domestic Abuse

Healing My Soul: A 3rd Generation Survivor of Domestic Abuse

Healing My Soul was written to encourage people, women in particular, to live above their circumstances. I've been through a lot and I know there are many more roads to travel and bridges to cross but I have realized I am never alone. God is with me; you, my readers, are with me and best of all...I am with me. For so long I never thought I could do it; no matter what it was. I knew I just couldn't do it. Now, not only can I do it, but I can rock it! I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Healing My Soul is about finally feeling good in my skin. You see, we are a spirit that resides in a body and we possess a soul; the thinking part of who we are. The thinking part of who we are, the soul, is what really defines our time on this side of heaven as our thoughts create our action which determines our relationships and ultimately our life. Often people address the symptoms of a dis-eased soul with alcohol or other risky behaviors but once we get to the roots, our soul, we can start healing from within which ultimately lead to better relationships and a better life. Please accept Healing My Soul as an opportunity to view and learn from my journey; your journey may be very different and that's okay. The key is that we all remain in true to who we are and never stop seeking health and love from GOD!

Principles of Economics, 3rd Edition

Principles of Economics, 3rd Edition

In recent years, innovative texts in mathematics, science, foreign languages, and other fields have achieved dramatic pedagogical gains by abandoning the traditional encyclopedic approach in favor of attempting to teach a short list of core principles in depth. Two well-respected writers and researchers, Bob Frank and Ben Bernanke, have shown that the less-is-more approach affords similar gains in introductory economics. Although recent editions of a few other texts have paid lip service to this new approach, Frank/Bernanke is by far the best thought out and best executed principles text in this mold. Avoiding excessive reliance on formal mathematical derivations, it presents concepts intuitively through examples drawn from familiar contexts. The authors introduce a well-articulated short list of core principles and reinforcing them by illustrating and applying each in numerous contexts. Students are periodically asked to apply these principles to answer related questions and exercises. The text also encourages students to become ?Economic Naturalists,? people who employ basic economic principles to understand and explain what they observe in the world around them. An economic naturalist understands, for example, that infant safety seats are required in cars but not in airplanes because the marginal cost of space to accommodate these seats is typically zero in cars but often hundreds of dollars in airplanes. Such examples engage student interest while teaching them to see each feature of their economic landscape as the reflection of an implicit or explicit cost-benefit calculation.
